Bombay Beach, CA is a sun-baked and desolate outpost south of Palm Springs. It’s a must-stop for photographers as it’s like a post-apocalyptic wasteland of decaying vacation trailers and a marina caused by a rise and fall in the level of the Salton Sea (salinity +4% and rising) by tropical storms in 1976 and 1977. The resulting landscape—a salt encrusted, weathered and corroded landscape. It’s a strange and reflective place. Go in the spring or fall when it’s more mild.
