Red Crow Community College

I was invited by Red Crow Community College to design and produce a book about elder Calvin Williams featuring his talks to Indigenous students during 2021. This anthology of eleven addresses serves as a vehicle to preserve Blackfoot culture by capturing and sharing knowledge, stories and customs. My work included consulting with Calvin Williams and editor Mary Weasel Fat. At my suggestion, the book also includes a section for Blackfoot translations that are in the book. The translation of terms was completed by Elder Williams and other members of the Kainai first nation. Motivation to produce this book was the development of the Red Crow Community College Press. Other books about Kainai elders are planned.

In addition to book design, I also photographed Calvin for the cover and interior pages. The colours used on the cover, section dividers and headlines were derived from yellow and red ocher, natural pigments sacred to Blackfoot culture.
