TrailMX Outdoor Activity App

Solo Design and Development by Scott Cressman

TrailMX is a story-forward outdoor activity app I’m designing for iPhone. It combines GPS route tracking and key metrics (time, distance, pace, elevation) with quick “Moments” capture—photos, short video, and voice notes—so a hike or snowshoe becomes a shareable narrative, not just a map. The goal is to help weekend adventurers document the experience and the data, then turn it into a clean activity summary and storytelling-ready recap.

What’s inside

  • Map-first GPS tracking with core performance stats (time, distance, pace, ascent/descent, steps, calories)

  • Story-forward logging with photos, notes, POIs, and voice memos with transcription—so each activity becomes a narrative, not just a route.

  • Elevation + live context: elevation gain/loss, live weather status, and a live hydration guidance card.

  • Guide routes (import GPX/KML and use them as an on-map guide layer while recording).

  • Activity library + detail views: search/sort/group, photo thumbnails + viewer, rich activity summaries, editing, and share/export.

  • Trends & insights: month/year views, summary cards, charts, and highlights.

  • Cadence Setter (pacing companion): an optional, light-touch metronome-style guide using step cadence + slope to encourage sustainable pacing.

  • Backup & transfer via export/import ZIP.

Who this app is for

  • TrailMX is for hikers, walkers, snowshoers, and outdoor documentarians from snow to summer activities who want clean route + performance data and an easy way to capture the moments that make an outing memorable—photos, voice notes, and quick observations—without turning the experience into a complicated training app.

Why this matters

Most activity trackers treat your day outdoors like a spreadsheet. TrailMX treats it like a story wrapped in data—helping you remember what happened, where it happened, and why it mattered, while still delivering the “pro feel” of strong metrics, elevation, and trends.

About the designer developer

TrailMX is designed and built by Scott Cressman—a communication design professor and product designer—combining interface design craft (minimal, pro-themed UI) with practical outdoor needs: clarity while recording, fast capture of moments, and a satisfying archive you’ll actually revisit.

Ready to rethink outdoor activity tracking?

If your best days outside deserve more than a polyline on a map, TrailMX is built for you.
